Established in 1965, Tomintoul Distillery is located near to the village of Tomintoul, the highest village in the Highlands of Scotland and in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park. The area surrounding Tomintoul Distillery is one of astounding natural beauty. This natural environment combined with the fresh mountain air of the Cairngorms, the soft, pure water from the Ballantruan spring and the tall and mighty stills of Tomintoul, all contribute to creating our exceptionally smooth and well-balanced single malt Scotch whisky. High in the Cairngorms small mountain lochs, called tarns, have developed due to glacial movement. The name tarn comes from the old Norse word "tjorn" meaning pond, and some of these spring water lochs have existed for over 10,000 years, since the last ice age. Many tarns are surrounded by ancient peat. It is this peat influence that shapes the intense smoky, sweet and earthy character of Tomintoul Tarn, a single malt distilled from peated malted barley. A peat-forward nose with whiffs of campfire smoke and burnt heather open up into aromas of honey and orchard fruits and meet the smoky and sweet flavours of peat smoke, boiled sweets and vanilla pod before finishing in a nice balance of fireplace soot and vanilla cake.
